Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-24 · Status: beta, working policy
Separato is operated from Ontario, Canada and complies with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy law.
What we collect
- Account information: your name, email, password (hashed), and province.
- Session data: the information you and your partner provide during intake — income, dates, children's names and DOBs, property and debt details.
- AI caucus conversations: the private messages you exchange with the AI facilitator. These are confidential between you and Separato — they are never shared with the other party.
- Safety screening: answers to the MASIC intimate-partner-violence screener. Results are confidential to you and to crisis services we are required to contact.
- Agreement content: the proposals, counter-proposals, and final agreement you and your partner build.
- Technical data: IP address, browser, pages visited — used to operate the service and detect abuse.
- Payment data: when you purchase an agreement, Stripe processes your payment. We never see or store your full card number.
What we don't do
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
- We do not use your conversations, intake, or agreement content to train AI models — yours or anyone else's.
- We do not share what one party tells the AI with the other party. Caucus sessions are private.
- We do not disclose your safety-screening results to your partner or to a court without your explicit consent (subject to mandatory reporting obligations where a child is at risk).
Where your data lives
Your data is stored in Canada with Supabase (data residency: Canada Central region). Backups are encrypted and stored in the same region. We do not send your personal information outside Canada except where necessary to deliver the service (e.g., Stripe for payments, email delivery providers) and only under data-processing agreements that bind those providers to PIPEDA-equivalent standards.
Your rights
- Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to fix anything inaccurate.
- Deletion: close your account and have your personal information deleted, subject to legal retention requirements (e.g., financial records under the Income Tax Act).
- Withdraw consent: stop using the service at any time. Note this may end your session and any in-progress agreement.
- Complain to the federal Privacy Commissioner of Canada at 1-800-282-1376 or priv.gc.ca.
Breach notification
In the event of a privacy breach that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the federal Privacy Commissioner without unreasonable delay, in accordance with PIPEDA s.10.1.
Contact
For any privacy question or request, contact support@separato.ca. We respond within 30 days.
This policy reflects current practice during beta. We will update it materially before launching paid agreements at scale. Substantive changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date and, for account-holders, emailed.
